Now that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for Spring 2011 has officially ended, it’s time to reflect back on some of the beauty highlights from the shows that I saw. Some I loved…others, not so much. Flawless looking skin, side ponytails, up-dos and bright lips (lots of orange!) were key trends that I observed.
At Cynthia Rowley, Val Garland for MAC Cosmetics did a makeup look that was influenced by Mary Quant that featured a false-eyelash look (think Tammy Faye Baker!) on the bottom lashes and pigmented lip. Hair was led by Bok-Hee for Antonio Prieto Salon and featured a Twiggy-inspired low ponytail twisted and pulled into a side bun.
At Catherine Malandrino, the beauty look was called “earthy” and was inspired by living in the south of France. The focus was a smokey eye with metallic eyeshadow in shades of brown and lots of Zoom Lash mascara. Skin was sunkissed and natural looking. Hair was pulled into an easy chignon, adding Bumble + Bumble Surf Spray for texture.
One of my favorite hair looks was at the Badgley Mischka show and was led by Peter Gray for Moroccanoil. The look encompassed cascades of tight curls that were combed out into waves. What really made the hair stand out was the addition of custom-designed gold, silver and diamond jewelry, as well as gold coins, inserted into the hair.
One of the most exciting things I saw was at the Tibi show, with makeup being led by Bobbi Brown. The overall look was pretty and polished, as you’d expect from Bobbi. But what got me really excited was the palette she was using. The Peony and Python Palette will launch in March and features the most gorgeous shades of purple. I can’t wait!
