It’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York and Beauty411 brings you a backstage pass to the major shows and trendsetters, starting with Jason Wu. Jason Wu continues to evolve as a fashion designer and for Fall 2011 his inspiration is Versaille. Rich fabrics and lace are highlights of the collection.
Jason Wu on his Fall 2011 Collection: “My collection was inspired by Robert Polidori’s gorgeous photographs of the restoration of Versailles. I loved the juxtaposition between Versailles’ rough undersurface revealed during renovation and its opulent Baroque décor, so my clothing this season is a mix of luxuriously embellished fabrics and signature American sportswear.”
Hair, makeup and nails at the Jason Wu show were an extension of the Versaille theme. Odile Gilbert for Aveda created a sleek and elegant gilded twist. Gilbert describes how to get the look: “To adapt this style for real life, create a sleek pony with Aveda Brilliant Spray-On Shine and twist into a bun at the nape of the neck, with ends fanning up the back of the head. Clip with a bright metallic barrette or hair pin to add a shot of glamour. Spray with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray for a controlled and elegant finish.”
Makeup artist Diane Kendal for MAC Cosmetics executed a glamourous smoky eye look, using a mixture of blue and black eyeshadow (Through the Night and Carbon) surrounding MAC Gold Glitter in the center. Blacktrack Fluidline and heavy Haute & Naughty mascara framed the eye for dramatic effect. Skin was luminous; lips were kept neutral, using only Shell Cream Base for a hint of color.
Nails were done by CND and continued the opulent look of the Jason Wu collection. Roxanne Valinoti created gilded burgundy manicures using Dark Ruby layered with Bloodline, and gilded with Gold Chrome smile lines. The manicures matched the slicked back ponytails with a flash of gold leaf. Gorgeous!
