This is Week 7 of my Nutrisystem journey and it was an interesting one. There were ups and downs….and I’m not just talking about the scale!
Holidays are a big deal in my family. Since losing our parents 10 years ago, my sisters and our families spend every holiday together. And when you’re Italian, that means eating. I was grateful when one of my sisters volunteered to do host the holiday dinner, but a little worried about how I was going to deal it now that I’m on Nutrisystem. I made the decision that I would partake, eat what I wanted within reason and get back on track the next day.
I gave myself permission to have whatever I wanted–including the Cherry Cheese dessert (with the marshmallows!). In the past, sweets have always been my undoing, so I really debated the wisdom of having dessert, as I was worried this might send me into a tailspin of sugar cravings. Maybe I would go off track and not be able to get back on the diet. I was worried because since day 1, I have not cheated. But you know what? Having the dessert (and some potatoes) actually had the opposite effect! I felt so sick and horrible, I actually have NO desire to go back to an unhealthy diet of refined sugar and high carb foods again.
The way the Nutrisystem program is designed, you eat foods low on the glycemic scale so you don’t get the spikes in blood sugar, cravings and crashes that you do when eating foods like potatoes and Cherry Cheese dessert. After eating clean for over 6 weeks, my body had a hard time handing the effects of the Easter meal. I felt so horrible, I actually couldn’t wait to get back on track – starting Sunday night!
I think the lesson for me is to continue to embrace this new, healthy way of eating and to find strength in the fact that I really can give up sugary sweets and things like potatoes in favor of healthier food choices. And if I do slip up, I have the ability to get right back on track and move forward.
This week, despite the Easter dinner, I lost an additional 2 pounds, making my weight loss total 18 pounds since March 13th. If you would like to lose weight and eat healthier, visit Nutrisystem today or call 888-853-4689 for more information.
