While I was in New York for Fashion Week, I attended a Le Métier de Beauté Fall Trend event and was able to learn more about this amazing beauty line. The translation for Le Métier de Beauté is “the craftsmanship of beauty” and when you look at the Silk Road Kaleidoscope, you understand completely. Read on for more…
Each shade of eyeshadow in the Fall Silk Road Kaleidoscope was inspired by the silk, satin, spice and jewels of the Silk Road in the Far East. The application technique is called “Couches de Couleur” (the layering of color) and the colours in the Kaleidoscope are meant to be layered and applied in order. Using principles of contrast, each shade in the Kaleidoscope is selected to evoke one element in a sequence of crescendo: 1. Warm 2. Cool 3. Hot 4. Cold.
The Silk Road Kaleidoscope’s four eyeshadow colors include:
- Tapestry—a shimmering, translucent plum
- Damask— a rich gold-brass
- Ikat—a silk-matte pinot noir
- Brocade—a deep chocolate with copper reflects
The texture of the eyeshadows is incredible–silky soft, yet densely pigmented. And because of that, a little goes a long way. From the looks of the colours, you might think the shades would be dark and almost theatrical looking, but the effect is exactly the opposite when applied in layers. The effect is similar to a prism and it varies depending on the shape of your eyes.
Of the four shades, I have to say that Tapestry is my favorite and Damask is the shade that most intimidates me. However, once applied, all four colours look gorgeous and I’ve really enjoyed layering them for different effects. The “Couches de Couleur” application is a much different than the way I’ve traditionally thought of applying eyeshadow. Using this product has made me re-think the effect of light on the eye and how the colours meld on the contours of the eye.
The Le Métier de Beauté Silk Road Kaleidoscope Eye Kit retails for $95 and is available at select Nordstrom stores, Nordstrom.com and Neiman Marcus. It’s part of the Silk Road Collection, which also includes a Lip Kit and the East Meets West Nail Collection.
