BB Creams have taken the beauty world by storm and since updating you on 7 of the latest bb creams, in addition to new formulas, we now have CC Creams! Read on for the 411 on these multitasking marvels.
At the top of my “must have” list is the new MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30. I’ve been reaching for it constantly and love that it evens skin tone and blurs imperfections, giving skin a flawless look while providing excellent sun protection with SPF 30. Comes in three semi-translucent shades and is available at US M·A·C Stores and online at maccosmetics.com. Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 (tube) has been available since November, although I haven’t tried that formula.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm hydrates, primes, protects, perfects and treats skin – all while giving it a luminous, demi-matte finish. What I love is how this BB feels–or doesn’t feel–like there’s nothing on your skin. Comes in a universal light beige tint that dries to a translucent finish and provides sheer to light coverage. As with most BBs, there are skin benefits, too. SPF 20 guards against UVA and UVB rays, while Pepha®-Protect, derived from watermelon extract, inhibits DNA damage and protects the cellular barrier against daily stress caused by UV rays. At Sephora, ULTA, select Macy’s, Beauty.com and UrbanDecay.com, $34.
Since being introduced to the Kevyn Aucoin line, I’ve really been impressed by the quality of the products and the excellent performance. The newest addition to the line is The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm; a sheer-to-light coverage balm that treats, protects, moisturizes and tints skin, all in one velvety formula. The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm formula is good for the skin; with botanical rice extract, is rich in peptides and good for anti-aging! The shade closest to my light-medium skin is SB01. Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm is available in 4 shades at NeimanMarcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom, Space NK and Barneys, $48.
Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is the first BB that I’ve tried that’s designed to prime skin and simultaneously provide a natural, sun-kissed glow. The paraben-free formula contains SPF 30 protection and is ideal for all skin types. It’s infused with innovative microspheres shown to hide skin imperfections and diminish the appearance of wrinkles. In addition to the Bronzing BB ($38), there are 2 other BB’s available: the Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Beauty Balm with Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (your ‘traditional’ BB) and the Stay All Day 10-in-1 Illuminating Beauty Balm, which offers a more luminous, radiant finish. I really like that one, too!
Billed as beauty’s next big thing, CC cream stands for “color-correcting”. A CC Cream provides light coverage, tone-correcting and anti-aging benefits. The Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer formula includes Essential Glucosamine Complex, powered by niacinamide, which helps fight 7 signs of aging and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. The formula feels like a cross between a lightweight moisturizer and a serum, so it looks natural and provides a light, dewy, finish. You can find Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer in three shades, at drug and discount stores now.
This time of year, one product that makes a big impact on sallow skin is a luminizer. I love bareMinerals READY Luminizer, which comes in a compact (you can see my review here). But it’s nice to have another option. New Buxom Divine Goddess Luminizer is so natural looking, it adds just the sheerest hint of radiance to cheekbones, temples and decollete. You can use it alone or under/over foundation. Overall, I’d say it’s pretty goofproof and the 2 oz. tube will last forever. I would definitely add BUXOM Divine Goddess Luminizer ($28) to your collection!
And big news from MAKE UP FOR EVER… announcing the first new foundation in 4 years! Pro Finish is a unique multi-use compact foundation, formulated to be applied wet or dry. When applied wet, you get sheer, satin coverage, when applied dry it offers full, matte coverage. My preferred way to apply is with a damp sponge, included in the compact. There are 25 different shades, broken down into four undertones (golden, olive, beige and pink). I’m a light-medium (NC20) and in my regular MUFE HD Foundation, shade 120. The Pro Finish in shade 120 was too light; shade 125 is a better match. MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Finish Foundation retails at $36 and is available at Sephora. Feels like a second skin–love!
