Once you’ve reached a weight loss goal, believe me, the work isn’t over. It would be nice to think that you could magically then eat whatever you wanted—but that’s not real life. In my case, after losing the 100 pounds, I actually lost 20 more; I think I was so afraid of ever going backwards, I wanted there to be a range where I’d feel safe.
In the past year, I’ve worked hard to maintain my weight loss and as of today, I’m still 115 pounds down from my start weight on Nutrisystem. It hasn’t been easy…I’ve had to completely change my relationship with food and exercise. But that’s a tradeoff I’m willing to make. Just as my mantra when I started Nutrisystem was “failure is not an option”, that’s still the case now. I’m not willing to go back to the “old” me.
I continue to incorporate Nutrisystem foods and principles I learned on the plan, such as logging everything I eat. Logging food keeps me accountable and helps keep me on track. I’ve also totally changed my attitude towards exercise. I’ve had to face the fact that exercise is the only way I’m going to keep the weight off long-term. Since last May, I’ve logged over 600 miles of walking using the Map My Walk and Runkeeper apps. I’ve also become a FitFluential Ambassador and a Sweat Pink Ambassador; both groups promote fitness and healthy lifestyles with the goal of inspiring others to do the same. It’s another way to keep myself accountable, too.
Losing weight and keeping it off is a personal and not-always-easy decision. Sometimes it means giving myself a “tough-love” pep talk. But for me, it’s the way I choose to live now and don’t plan on going back. I’ll be forever grateful that Nutrisystem was the plan that helped me lose the weight and get a chance to be healthier and happier.
