With the debut of the first Dior collection in 1947, Christian Dior dreamed of a unique and visionary style of beauty. He believed that Dior elegance was marked by a head-to-toe look, not least of which included “dressing a woman’s smile.” Now, Rouge Dior celebrates its 60th anniversary with the debut of the new Rouge Dior Collection. Read on for more…
The Rouge Dior Collection is made up of 32 shades of lipstick. Of those, four shades are considered “iconic”. The iconic shades are named because they hold a place in the history of Dior. They include:
- 999, the classic red shade that debuted as the first Dior lipstick in 1947.
- Grège 1947, a subtle, definitively “Dior” blend of grey and beige that has always been inseparable from the history of the house.
- Darling, a sparkling, vivid pink reminiscent of Christian Dior’s “Chéries,” his colourful, inspired and inspirational muses.
- Trafalgar is a coral that takes its name from the flamboyant dresses that the couturier would send out as a flash of colour to invigorate the rhythm of a show that sometimes contained more than 140 designs.
Each of these shades truly represents the foundation of the Dior beauty collection; I love the symbolism and the nod to the rich history of the House of Dior. I seriously think any makeup junkie will want these iconic shades in their collection–I know I do!
There are four shades of Vernis that correspond to the iconic lipstick shades : #999 Rouge, #657 Trafalgar, #653 Darling and #970 Nuit 1947. I couldn’t resist picking up Nuit 1947; it’s a deep, dark burgundy color that is everything for Fall.
The Rouge Dior Collection is available now at department store Dior counters. Do you plan on picking anything up?
