One of Disney’s most iconic villians, Maleficent, is the inspiration for M·A·C’s new Maleficent Collection. Dark, foreboding and dramatic, the Maleficent Collection will cast a spell on all who dare to explore it!
The M·A·C Maleficent Collection is distinctly different than the Venomous Villains Collection, which was released in 2010. Of course Maleficent was one of the Villains and in that collection, the packaging was more playful, almost cartoonish. In Venomous Villains, the predominant color for the Maleficent grouping was purple. In this collection, Maleficent is the star and the packaging is so much darker, almost creepy. Dual ravens adorn each product. As for color, the emphasis is on red.
The M·A·C Maleficent Collection includes:
LIPSTICK ($17.50): True Love’s Kiss – clean bright red (amplified)
PRO LONGWEAR LIPGLASS ($22): Anthurium – clean bright red
PRO LONGWEAR LIP PENCIL ($21.50): Kiss Me Quick – yellow red

I received an assortment of products from the M·A·C Maleficent Collection to preview. Since this had been a collection I’d been anticipating from the time it was announced, I was a little surprised at the color choices in the Maleficent Eyeshadow X4. With so much of the imagery focusing on blacks/greys, those were the colors I had expected to see for eyeshadow. The colors in this quad, do work together to create a smokey eye look.
The lip products that I tried are clear, bright reds and include the Lipstick in True Love’s Kiss and Pro Longwear Lipglass in Anthurium. Both lip products are very pigmented; the Lipglass would be my pick for a less intimidating red lip. I couldn’t evaluate the Kiss Me Quick Lip Pencil, as it was apparently stuck and wouldn’t advance. The Beauty Powder in Natural is a shade that will work for everyone and if you’re a collector, this is a good piece to pick up.
I also tried the Nail Lacquer in Flaming Rose, which is a beautiful true red (hard to find!). The creme formula applied well and the quality of the color is excellent. It’s so pigmented, you could get away with one coat. One of the best reds I’ve ever tried!
The M·A·C Maleficent Collection is available now at select M·A·C stores, online at maccosmetics.com and exclusively at Macy’s. Are you going to be going to the dark side and getting anything from the M·A·C Maleficent Collection?
