The FOREO ISSA™ Toothbrush is a new type of dental-care device; although it has the familiar look of a toothbrush, the ISSA is made of silicone bristles and uses pulsation technology. I’ve been using the ISSA and although it took some getting used to, I really like it.
The FOREO ISSA differs from a regular toothbrush in that it is so gentle. The first few times I used it, I was feeling like “this isn’t doing the job at all”. In fact, I think that I am so used to a more abrasive technique and tool; I eventually realized that the ISSA, with it’s silicone bristles, is made to be gentler. The key is to stick with it.
The ISSA brushing experience is similar to other “sonic” toothbrushes I’ve used in the past, in that there is a 2 minute cycle. Every 30 seconds, the ISSA beeps and pulsations pause, indicating that it’s time to move to the next quadrant of the mouth. This insures that all areas/surfaces are brushed. You can adjust the intensity of the sensations–something I really like–by just pressing the center button (also your on/off button). You don’t need any special toothpaste with the ISSA and it’s super-easy to clean, being silicone. I also like the fact that the ISSA is so ergonomic and sleek; it looks fine being left out on the counter. There are four colors; I have the “mint”, which is a pretty spa blue.
It seems these days that we are slaves to charging units; it’s nice that the ISSA only needs to be charged once every 6 months. The brushes only need to be replaced once a year–which is a significant savings compared to other sonic toothbrushes I’ve used. Overall, I really like the ISSA and was glad to get the opportunity to try it. Since I’m always concerned with brushing and oral/gum health, I think this is a nice addition to my routine.
