One of my favorite ‘Top 10’s” to do is mascara. Ask 10 different women what their favorite mascara is and you’ll get 10 different answers. I’ve been busy testing new mascara releases for this update, but had to include some of my all-time favorite mascaras, too.
My Top 10 Best Mascaras of 2015 include (in alphabetical order):
1. Chantecaille Supreme Cils Water-Resistant Mascara, $52
2. Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara (in Portly Plum), $17.00
3. COVERGIRL The Super Sizer by Lashblast Mascara, $5.99
4. Dior Diorshow Lash-Extension Effect Volume Mascara, $27.50
5. Estee Lauder Sumptuous Infinite Daring Length & Volume Mascara, $26
6. Guerlain Cils d’Enfer – Maxi Lash Mascara, $30
7. MAC Upward Lash Mascara, $22
8. NARS Audacious Mascara, $26
9. Urban Decay Perversion Mascara, $22
10. YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll Mascara, $32
There are so many choices in the mascara category, it’s almost impossible to know which ones to buy–even for an experienced beauty blogger! My advice is to determine what you want your mascara to do and choose the formula from there. I like volumizing first, lengthening second. And I will not tolerate clumping or smudging, so I have not personally experienced that with any of the selections on my list.
I’ve been a fan of Dior Diorshow Mascara for years and this year they introduced a new formula. I was interested to see how they would compare. The brush is the same size/shape, however the formula now has a microfiber element, along with an airlock wiper for volume and extension. I love it–in fact, it’s my favorite of all the mascaras I’ve tried.
Another point of disctinction between formulas is scent. The mascaras (above) that are scented include Chantecaille, Dior, Guerlain and YSL.
Other thoughts on these mascaras…I love the new Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara. It’s available in 4 shades (you can color-coordinate!) and for a “mid”-priced mascara, it’s excellent. The brush on MAC’s Upward Lash is small, therefore you’re really able to go in closely, or double coat the ends for an upswept look. That slightly curved brush is also what I like about COVERGIRL Super Sizer by Lashblast Mascara. This brush transforms each and every lash, especially if you “twirl” the brush.
I find that with NARS Audacious, Urban Decay Perversion and YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Babydoll, the formula is a little “wetter”, so for the best results, I apply slowly and give a few seconds of “dry time” between coats.
For tools, I use a MAC 205 Mascara Fan Brush to separate, if needed and Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler. If your lashes need a little extra help, I’d recommend a primer. Urban Decay Subversion is excellent; you really will see a difference. For removal, I’ve always liked Lancôme Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover, makeup wipes and a new discovery, Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm.
