Laura Mercier always dreamed of inventing a foundation that recreated the atmosphere of a candlelight room, so she did what comes naturally…she made one! New Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation beautifully creates a soft candlelit glow on skin, day or night.
I’ve long been a fan of Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer, a classic, as well as her primers. But I’ve never used one of the brand’s liquid foundations. I was able to try two shades of the new Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation, Ivory and Butterscotch.
Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation is a luminous foundation with light to buildable medium coverage. The formula is centered around a blend of Radiant-Pearl Mica and purified water, which offers reflective and luminous properties, as well as a blend of lightweight, emollient oils to lock in moisture. Antioxidant Vitamins C and E provide anti-aging benefits, too.
The Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation wears well; I consistently got all-day wear with true color and no oxidation. I think it’s fair to say the coverage is “glowy”; it’s nice. There is no shimmer in the product. I tried it with and without the Radiance Primer underneath (mostly because it’s my normal routine to wear a primer with foundation), and I did feel I got better application with the primer. For more mature skins, there was no settling into fine lines; it’s a very natural look.
The biggest challenge that I see with this foundation is shade selection. Although there are 24 shades available, I found it hard to come up with a good match. My skin is light-medium, and in the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer I wear Sand. I tried Ivory (too light) and Butterscotch (too warm). I might try Creme to see if that’s closer. In terms of who can wear Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation, I would recommend it for normal, normal-to-dry, dry, combination-dry skins. If you have oily skin, I would sample it first because there is oil in the formula.
Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation ($48, 1 oz) is available now in Sephora, Nordstrom and at LauraMercier.com. It will be available in department stores nationwide in February. Are you planning to give this foundation a try? Let me know!
