When Sephora announced they would be starting Play! by Sephora, their own version of a subscription beauty box, I couldn’t wait. Finally, a beauty box for makeup addicts from the mother ship! I immediately signed up.
I was a little bummed to learn that the Play! by Sephora boxes would roll out in phases. The email eventually came that I would be getting my first box. My first Play! by Sephora box came in April, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed because I had already tried everything. So I withheld judgement. I recently received the May box, and that one featured all new-to-me products.
The May box contained 6 products:
- Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine Cologne
- Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi
- Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
- Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial
- Origins Maskimizer skin-optimizing mask primer (plus 2 sample masks)
- Tarte tarteist™ Lip Crayon in Latergram (matte finish)
The May Play! by Sephora box is a nice assortment of beauty, skin, hair and fragrance. I was excited to try the Bite Beauty Lipstick…every time I go into Sephora, the display is usually sold out. Kimchi is a bright pink shade that’s perfect for summer. The tarteist™ Lip Crayon is really matte. Although I liked the Latergram shade, which is a mauve-almost brown shade, I found the matte formula in this pencil really drying. I love the Orange Sanguine Cologne and the Briogeo hair mask. The Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial is a very nice moisturizer, but with quite a bit of fragrance. I haven’t had a chance to try the Origins Maskimizer yet. It all comes in an adorable beauty bag.
Overall, I think the Play! by Sephora box is well worth the $10 investment. Sure, there will be boxes that are good, some not so much, but for a relatively small price point, I’m OK with it. There is “value-added” aspect; there is a A PLAY! BOOK, which shows you how to use everything in the box, along with a PLAY! PASS, good for an in-store tutorial (and get 50 bonus Beauty Insider points with any in-store purchase while you’re there). To get on the wait list, or for more information, head to Sephora.com/play.
