Created by NARS Founder and Creative Director, François Nars, the Fall 2016 Color Collection debuts a refined combination of seasonal shades, signature colors and state-of-the-art textures for eyes, cheeks and lips.
Each July when the Fall makeup collections start rolling out, it seems so out of sync with the rest of my makeup routine; I’m immersed in bronzers and light lipsticks or glosses. But the richer textures and colors of Fall makeup draw me in every time. I can’t resist, no matter how hard I try.
This season, the NARS Fall 2016 Color Collection is built upon new shades of Dual-Intensity Eyeshadows (all three look like must-haves to me!), Velvet Matte Lip Pencils and Contour Blush (see my review here). Eyes become more dramatic with 9 shades of new Velvet Eyeliner.
I had the opportunity to try four shades of the new Velvet Eyeliners: Black Moon (black), Darklight (navy blue), Kaliste (teal) and Last Frontier (deep brown). This new eyeliner formula is creamy and as you’d expect from NARS, has excellent pigmentation. In terms of wear, this is an eyeliner that is good for a smoky look, as it’s very blendable and smudgy. If you’re looking for a clean, precise line that doesn’t budge, I’d go with the Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner instead. Both good liners–choose based on what you’re trying to achieve.
To be honest, I really miss seeing some new lipstick shades in this collection. The Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are swoonworthy, and the Consuming Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (above, top) is a gorgeous, saturated, true matte garnet shade. The color is striking for Fall and the formula comfortable and not drying on the lips. If lipstick is more your thing, don’t miss out on the limited-edition VIP Red Semi-Matte Lipstick for Fall.
