CHANEL debuts the first collection by Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer Lucia Pica, and it centers around the color red. Red is a statement color…bold, passionate, sexy, powerful. And those are the qualities the Le Rouge Collection N°1 embodies.
Sometimes you look at colors in a makeup collection and immediately dismiss them–“not for me”. That would be easy to do with the Le Rouge Collection N° 1. When I first saw it, I though there’s no way I can pull off red. Maybe the eyeshadow or blush; but I’ve never been able to muster the confidence to wear a red lip. After playing with the products, however, yes…this collection is wearable.
To wear the Le Rouge Collection N° 1, the key is to identify your focal point. The two words I think of with this collection are restraint and balance. If you focus on the eyes and a strong lip, don’t add the blush. If cheek color is your thing, use the neutral colors in the eyeshadow quad…you get the idea.
Highlights from CHANEL Le Rouge Collection N° 1 include:
Illusion D’Ombre Eyeshadow in Rouge Contraste ($36) – deep chocolate brown
Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rouge Profond – brick red ($45)
Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Rouge Tentation ($37)
Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in Rouge Charnel (fire red), Rouge Feu (luminous orange) and Rouge Audace (chocolate burgundy).
Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in Eros (brown burgundy red)
Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer ($31) in Seduction (rosebud brick)
Honestly, once I tried the products in the Le Rouge Collection N° 1, I realized that they can be used in a neutral, but impactful way. For a soft smoky eye, try the Illusion D’Ombre Velvet in Rouge Contraste. It has a matte finish, is super pigmented and long-wearing. The Joues Contraste Blush formula is one of my favorites of any brand, and the Rouge Profond shade is surprisingly wearable; just use a light hand/brush and build you color to the intensity you want.
The Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Multiple has a matte finish. The shades have excellent pigmentation and are so silky. I’ve mainly used the three brown shades, but you can actually mix the red in for a pop of color or ombre look.
Of the Lip Colours I tried, my favorite is Rouge Audace; I’m obsessed with this shade for Fall! The Precision Lip Definer in Seduction is a versatile shade that can be used to build color with a lipstick.
The CHANEL Le Rouge Collection N° 1 for Fall is out now in department stores and online at chanel.com. Do you love a good red?
