Most of us are trying to make healthy choices in our daily lives, whether it’s eating better, exercising more or making more conscious lifestyle choices. As we take better care of ourselves, using clean beauty products is a natural progression.
There is no real specific definition for a “clean” beauty product. A clean beauty product might be any or a combination of the following: organic, made without chemicals, vegan, cruelty-free, organic, natural, eco-friendly, chemical-free, without synthetics or preservatives–there’s a wide range. The Environmental Working Group has many excellent resources available if you want more direction. Usually a clean beauty product has an ingredient list that is short and pronounceable.
While I haven’t switched out my entire beauty or skincare cabinet to clean beauty products, I have definitely taken notice. At first, I was attracted by the simple, gorgeous packaging (of course I was!). I love the clean, minimalistic look (very Instagrammable) of the products. I’ve ordered many different products and what I experienced is kind of addicting. Most clean beauty products are made by small, artisinal brands…and that’s part of the charm, too.
Today I’m sharing some of my clean beauty finds so that you can start your own clean beauty journey! Swap out your current product (listed in bold) for one of these favorites:
Cleanser: French Girl Organics Cleansing Wash in Rose is a gentle, non-foaming cleanser that smells amazing. It’s a lovely start or finish to your day. This formula is great for normal, oily or combination skin and doesn’t leave skin feeling dry or stripped. I selfishly just wish it didn’t come in a glass bottle so that I could take it in the shower with me.
Beauty Mist: Olivine Love + Roses can be used as a toner, beauty mist or a refresher for hair and makeup. All I can say is that it smells divine. I keep my bottle on my desk (glass) and spritz when I need a pickup, or I’m stressed. It’s unbelievably pampering and feels like I’m treating myself when I use it.
Facial Oil: Herbivore Botanicals Lapis Oil Balancing Oil. Because I have combination skin, finding a facial oil that doesn’t feel “heavy” on my skin has been a challenge. The Lapis Oil, which contains Blue Tansy, absorbs into my skin, without leaving a residue or clogging pores. I’ve fallen in love with the entire Herbivore Botanicals line and have loved every. single. thing. I’ve used. The Coco Rose Coconut Oil Body Polish is amazing, too!
Eye Cream: goop by Juice Beauty Perfecting Eye Cream thoroughly hydrates the delicate skin around eyes, while feeling luxurious. Formulated with organic ingredients, including peptides, this eye cream can be used by all ages. I really like the light, gel-cream texture.
Body Moisturizer: Farmhouse Fresh Skin Saviors (Whoopie Cream, Rainbow Road & Fluffy Bunny). These moisturizing Shea Butter whips smell delicious! They hydrate skin without being greasy, my favorite is the Whoopie Cream. Yum!
Face Moisturizer: Nourish Organic Face Lotion – With Moroccan Argan Oil, Shea Butter and Rosewater in the formula, this lotion smells heavenly, moisturizes, evens out skintone and softens skin. It’s lightweight, non-greasy and good for normal to dry skins.
Lip Balm: Farmacy Lip Bloom/Citrus Lemongrass – this lip balm is herb-infused with natural essential fatty acids and antioxidants. I love a lip balm that stays on for hours, especially overnight, and this has been my go-to.
Hand Cream: New from TULA, the Hand & Nail Therapy is formulated with 18% Shea Butter and 3 strains of probiotics to replenish moisture. I like it because it’s non-greasy, so while it’s conditioning hands and nails, you don’t have to stop what you’re doing on your computer, tablet or phone. Love!
Makeup: Lilah B. Beauty (review) Flawless Finish Foundation and Virtuous Veil™ Concealer and Eye Primer are formulated with aloe and other beneficial botanicals. The products look and feel luxurious. The Foundation (powder) is virtually weightless, you can build coverage as you need it. The Virtuous Veil™ Concealer goes on silky, blends well, with good coverage.
Lips & Tips: Context Matte Lipstick and Nail Lacquers are great ways to add to your makeup bag. The new collection includes 8 lipsticks have a demi-matte finish, with good pigmentation and wear. The Nail Lacquers are 5-Free, long-wearing, with beautiful color saturation and a high-shine finish. I’ve been very impressed with both products!
