Although cleansing oils are popular–especially this time of year–some are just too heavy and it feels like they sit on your skin without absorbing. You can double-cleanse, but that adds time to your beauty regimen. Or you can try Kiehl’s new Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil.
I have combination-dry skin, so I always approach a facial oil or a cleansing oil with a bit of caution. If I use an oil of any type, it would be in the fall and winter, when my skin runs to the dry side. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate was the first facial oil I tried and really liked, so I was anxious to try the Cleansing Oil.
Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil is a blend of squalane, evening primrose oil and aromatic lavender essential oil. Squalane is often used in skincare products, as it softens and hydrates skin. Evening Primrose Oil is rich in fatty acids, and has anti-inflammatory, calming and hydrating benefits. Lavender Oil is used for it’s soothing properties.
Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil is designed for use on all skin types, including oily skin, and works to thoroughly cleanse the skin in preparation of a nighttime skincare regimen. Kiehl’s recommends a simple 4-step oil cleansing method:
- Step One: Dispense 3-4 pumps into dry or wet hands.
- Step Two: Massage into dry skin, including eye area.
- Step Three: Add water and massage skin to emulsify the oil, creating a gentle cleansing milk. I use with my Clarisonic Mia Fit (seriously obsessed!), by wetting the head first, then massaging cleanser into my skin.
- Step Four: Rinse face thoroughly and pat dry with a soft towel. Follow with your existing nightly skin regimen.
I really like Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil and can see myself using this year around, because it does feel lighter. After using it, I don’t feel like I still have oil floating on my face or like I didn’t rinse completely enough. Instead my skin feels hydrated, soft and ready for the rest of my skincare routine.
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil ($32) is available in department stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, freestanding Kiehl’s stores and at kiehls.com. If you’re looking to try a facial cleansing oil, I can highly recommend this one!
