makeup-wars-best-cream-and-liquid-highlighters

It’s been a while since I’ve done a “Makeup Wars”, but with so many good cream and liquid highlighter releases to share, it was time! I’ve found myself reaching for a highlighter every day, regardless of the formula…powder, cream or liquid. I love the luminizing affect on my skin.

From an “impact” standpoint, BECCA has had a huge influence on my highlighting routine this past year. The release of the Champagne Pop Collection (review) helped me rediscover the brand. From that collection, the Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid and the Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Creme are both still favorites. The Champagne Pop color is perfect, regardless of the formula I choose, always gives a beautiful bright finish to my overall look.

The Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Luminizing Drops have various shades of pigments, plus luminizing pearls. The Champagne (gold), Pearl (silver) and Rose (pink) feel like a serum, can color-correct, and has Alguronic Acid in the anti-aging formula. I love these drops; of the various liquid formula highlighters I have, I would consider this one the most subtle. Because this is subtle, I don’t find it necessary to mix into a foundation or moisturizer. Just apply, blend and go!

For the most bold look or for strobing, I’d pick the COVER | FX Custom Enhancer Drops. I like the Moonlight shade, which is a soft silver-champagne shade. If applying directly on top of your makeup or skin isn’t your thing, these can be mixed into foundation or moisturizer. There are five additional shades; I have all of them and they’re amazing.

New from Maybelline, the FaceStudio Master Strobing Liquid Illuminating Highlighter is a budget-friendly way to try out a liquid highlighter. Although this is called a liquid, I consider it a cream formula. You can control the amount of highlighting effect by building coverage. Three shades (Light, Medium and Deep) are available.

One of my favorite new M∙A∙C products is the Studio Quiktrik Stick. This is a double-ended stick in various combinations…highlight/contour. highlight/blush, blush/bronzer, etc. I have Softly Does It/Tight and Tawny, which has a slight pink shimmer highlighter on one side, a light taupe shade on the other for a soft contour. I reach for this frequently, and it’s perfectly portable for travel. Love!
