It seems like everything is a little more relaxed in the summer. From our beauty routines to our hair, the name of the game is easy, breezy chill.  Get the jump on easy summer hair with these new finds!

The products that I’m recommending for summer hair care are designed to help you achieve effortless style, protect and repair, or just pamper your hair. This is the time we don’t want fussy styles. Beachy, loose waves, a high pony, or braids are all good options. With hours spent in and around the pool, it’s easy for hair to become damaged, or UV rays can cause damage to our color.

Who doesn’t love a lazy day at the beach? If we can’t get there, we can certainly create the illusion with Redken’s Beach Envy range. My favorite product is the Volume Wave Aid which is a salt-free formula that imparts volume and infuses a beachy, loose-wave texture into hair.

Air-drying hair is always popular in the summer. It’s an easy way to ditch the dryer and go for an easy style. In order to avoid the frizz, use a heat-free styling product like Pureology’s new Hydrate Air Cream. It protects color-treated hair by conditioning and locking in moisture while preventing the frizzies. Just apply a quarter-sized amount to damp hair and let it go! Bonus…it smells amazing!

After being out in the sun, hair can get damaged, so it’s a good idea to use a hair mask especially designed for post-sun use. PHYTO Phytoplage After Sun Recovery Mask is an excellent recovery mask for dry, damaged hair that’s been exposed to sun, chlorine, salt water and wind.

During the summer, a good dry shampoo is essential. Whether your hair needs a little vaca from the daily shampoo grind, or you just want to add volume and texture, a dry shampoo is the way to go. I’m really like the new John Frieda Luxurious Volume Volume Refresh Dry Shampoo. It’s formulated for fine hair (thank you!), and it refreshes “second day” hair, while absorbing dirt and oil so that hair still feels clean and light.

Summer is when hair can really benefit from using products that hydrate. I’ve recently been using the OGX Coconut Miracle Oil Shampoo & Conditioner. This tropical-inspired duo uses coconut oil to moisturize and condition dry, damaged hair. Even with my fine hair, these products didn’t make my hair heavy or feel weighed down. The smell? Definitely island-inspired!

There’s something I love about having my hair smell good…especially in the summer. You, too? I’ve been using philosophy’s Pure Grace Summer Surf Hair & Body Refresher, and I’m here to say that it’s super addicting. You can spritz on to wet or dry hair, plus use it as a body mist. Either way, you get that glorious beachy scent of sand and sea. Love!

If your color-treated hair has turned brassy, has oxidized, or your color is fading, the Dessange Salon Color Restore Color Correcting Creme is an option. I tried the formula for brown color-treated hair when I got back from my vacation in Mexico. This treatment neutralizes brassy orange and ginger tones to restore hair back to a rich brown shade. Don’t freak out when you see that it’s green; that’s the color it’s supposed to be. Use weekly to maintain your color.

If you color your hair, touching up the roots is necessity. I like to use a touch-up kit a couple weeks before I go back to the salon for my color. I’ve recently tried the new Madison Reed Root Reboot Kit in 6W Corsico Warm Medium Brown. The kit is the most luxurious at-home kit I’ve ever used. It has everything you need (shown above), with clear, concise instructions. The color lasted two+ weeks. There are six shades available; I wish there were more at the lighter end of the spectrum.

I’m always being asked about sulfate-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free products and am happy to recommend Saints & Sinners. I’ve been loving the Velvet Divine Leave-In Conditioner. It’s great for all hair types; it detangles, protects color, and adds crazy good shine to hair, while leaving hair manageable.

Although not just for summer, Kerastase Specifique is a new collection of products targeted to treat various hair and scalp needs. The struggle is real…unhealthy lifestyles, stress, hormonal changes and aging can all contribute to scalp issues, as can things like shampoo/product overuse, pollution and water contaminants. The result can be dandruff, oil build-up, dull/thinning hair. The five-product range includes three shampoos, a masque and an In-Salon Intensive Scalp & Hair Treatment.
