Minimalism is one of the key fashion trends for Mercedes-Benz Spring 2011 Fashion Week. At Derek Lam, the clothes reflected the sensuousness of the Sixties art scene on the West Coast. The look for hair, makeup and nails was designed to reflect the aesthetic of the collection.
Tom Pecheux for Estee Lauder created a bright, orange-shaded look on eyes using two new Pure Color Lipsticks, along with Pure Color EyeShadow in Sugar Cube to highlight. Lipstick used on the eyelid has been a trend that I’ve seen at several shows. Black mascara framed the eye. The lip was given a dewy texture in nude.
Hair by Orlando Pita for T3 featured a look that was a 60’s inspired blowout. The key word was texture; hair that was not too well done. Volumizing spray was used to add texture. The hair was then brushed into a veil and split with no part and slightly elevated at the crown.
Nails were by Jin Soon Choi for Estee Lauder and echoed the minimalistic look, using one coat of Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Extravagant Pearl. It’s the first opportunity I’ve had to see Jin’s work close-up. The Extravagant Pearl nail color is an opalescent hint of gold and pearl–beautiful for spring.
