TATCHA is a skin care line that has been on my radar for some time. I’m such a fan of Asian and particularly Japanese skin care, that when I heard the story about TATCHA, I was curious.  The CEO of the company, Victoria Tsai was inspired on a trip to Asia by a chance encounter in Kyoto with a modern day geisha. She was struck by a powerful memory of her mother telling her that all the Eastern world’s beauty secrets originated with the geisha. She combined her traditional business background with a love for beauty and skincare and TATCHA was born.

Each product in the line relates to the Geisha. In the case of Moisture Rich Silk Cream, the last step in a geisha’s skincare ritual is a wax base to create a poreless primer for her iconic makeup. This barrier locks in moisture and protects her skin against environmental aggressors, leaving skin more supple.  Although I’m not a geisha, I’m always on the lookout for a good moisturizer. Because of my combination skin, I have a love-hate relationship with moisturizers and when I find one I like, it’s a keeper.

TATCHA Moisture Rich Silk Cream is definitely a keeper for me.  First, I love the feel of this rich, but weightless gel-cream on my skin. The formula is amazing–essential actives including Silk Extract, Squalane and Wild Thyme help to moisturize and hydrate. Ginseng Root and Royal Jelly help to smooth skin. There are also anti-aging properties within the HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex, which include a proprietary green tea extract, red algae extract and rice bran extract.

My skin is loving the TATCHA Moisture Rich Silk Cream; especially with the change of seasons. Here in the midwest, we’ve started to get the first cold snaps and have had to start using the humidifier. My skin already feels drier. When I apply this moisturizer, particularly at night, my skin is comfortably hydrated without being greasy. The Moisture Rich Silk Cream forms a semi-occlusive barrier on the skin, which helps hold the moisture in. It also means that when applied before your makeup, it acts like a primer. And the formula is so gentle that it’s great for even the most sensitive skins. This moisturizer would be great if you’re getting chemical peels or for post-procedure skin.

TATCHA Moisture Rich Silk Cream ($150 for 1.7 oz.) is available at and select Barneys New York locations.
