Fresh and fierce, strong and sexy; the NARS Spring 2013 Color Collection introduces a vibrant, ‘90s-esque palette that sets the tone for a season of audaciously feminine looks. Created by Founder & Creative Director François Nars, the collection heralds spring’s arrival with shades ready to make a graphic statement. Read on for more…

Never one to shy away from color, François Nars front loads our spring with colors that will make a statement. This is refreshing to see, as when I was covering Spring Fashion Week, so much of the makeup focused on “nude” shades. Thankfully, not NARS!

The Spring 2013 NARS Color Collection includes:

Mad, Mad World Duo Eyeshadow in Cyan and parakeet green, $34

Bouthan Duo Eyeshadow, a soft pink tulle and bright pink with gold shimmer, $34

Persia Single Eyeshadow, a matte paprika shade, $24.

Corcovado Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in 24-karat gold (limited edition), $24

Seduction Blush in deep sangria, $28

Cythère Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in soft, metallic rose, $24

Dressed to Kill Lipstick, a semi-matte formula in fuschia rose with gold shimmer, $24

Disco Inferno Nail Polish, an iridescent silver green with a bit of lavender tones (limited edition), $18

The NARS Spring Color Collection reminds me of colors you’d see on a tropical island–and since François Nars owns one, that’s no doubt where some of the inspiration from this collection came from.  I previewed several of the products, including Bouthan Duo Eyeshadow, Seduction Blush and Disco Inferno Nail Polish. I have many NARS Duo Eyeshadows, but Bouthan is a new favorite. I found it really versatile, using it to lighten up darker shades, or just on it’s own with a swipe of mascara–so pretty.

Seduction Blush was actually outside my comfort zone. Afraid of it being too dark, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it and I was worried that it might be sparkly. But when I tried it–I have to say–it’s not dark and it definitely doesn’t sparkle. I used the NARS Yachiyo Brush to apply with a light hand and found the blush to be very natural looking.

And Disco Inferno Nail Polish. I have absolutely nothing like this in my collection. A silver base with green and lavender tones and shimmer–this one is so unusual, it’s going to sell out in a heartbeat. The finish looks like a frost on my nails; it’s mpossible to describe and impossible to photograph, but I love it.

The NARS Spring 2013 Color Collection is available now at Sephora, and I need to order the Dressed to Kill Lipstick–I have a feeling that will be a great year ’round shade. Will you be picking anything up? Let me know in the comments!
