Now that we’re into the unofficial start of summertime, this edition of Makeup Wars features the Best Sunscreens. As I kept trying to come up with just one “best sunscreen” and I looked through my own extensive sunscreen stash, I realized it was impossible. Read on for more…
Because I use different sunscreens for different needs, I have a sunscreen “wardrobe”. Some are for face, some for body, some for near the water, some for under makeup. So I decided to pick my “bests” based upon some of the different needs that you might have, too. Each of the sunscreens below protects against UVA and UVB rays. Bottom line? Find a sunscreen that meets your needs and use it!
If you’re active or outdoors where you’re sweating and need a water resistant sunscreen, I like the new Skinceuticals Sport UV Defense Sunscreen. This broad spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen is water resistant up to 80 minutes. Once applied, you barely know that you’re wearing this sunscreen, because it’s totally non-greasy and unscented. Great one for the guys or excellent if you’re into outside sports, like running.
The best new “no excuse not to wear sunscreen” comes from Kiehl’s and I’m obsessed. The Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream has an SPF 50 in a light texture formula that doesn’t feel like you’re wearing makeup (or sunscreen). This BB Cream is clinically-proven to correct skin tone irregularities and has Vitamin C to brighten, so with daily use, skin is improved. There are four shades available and coverage level is light, but buildable. Of all the BB Creams I’ve tested (and that’s alot), hands down this is my favorite.
The best “doesn’t feel like a sunscreen” goes to Estee Lauder DayWear. This new skin treatment provides all-day hydration, has antioxidants to defend against free radicals and help provide anti-aging benefits and SPF 50 for broad spectrum sun protection. I have the lotion, which is perfect for my combination skin. DayWear has an elegant feel and light, cucumber scent. The lightweight texture can be worn alone, over moisturizer or under foundation.
My pick for “best sunscreen for under makeup” comes from Kate Somerville. The new Daily Deflector Waterlight Sunscreen uses a cutting-edge delivery system to ensure that the sunscreen stays in a reservoir on the skin’s surface, while advanced ingredients penetrate to restore optimum hydration and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The extremely lightweight SPF 50 formula contains physical and mineral sun blocking ingredients, without any chemical sunscreens.
“Best budget-friendly sunscreen” goes to new AVEENO® PROTECT + HYDRATE™ sunscreen. In addition to broad spectrum sun protection, this sunscreen feels really moisturizing on the skin and helps reverse skin dehydration. It’s sweat and water resistant up to 80 minutes and available in 3 levels of SPF. Feels and moisturizes like a lotion, not greasy or heavy at all.
