The holidays are the time of year where you can take your usual hair and beauty routine and amp it up a notch. Everything is a little more glam this time of year. Need a little inspiration? Read on!
The recent Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is a great place to start for ideas. Hair stylist Orlando Pita created an effortlessly sexy look that was all about enhancing the natural beauty of the supermodels. Here’s how to get the sexy loose waves look:
- Apply VS So Sexy Style Body & Hold Volumizing Mousse from roots to ends of damp hair. Section the hair and dry using the ghd Air™ Professional Performance Hairdryer and a ghd round brush.
- Once the section is wrapped, gently remove your fingers. Close the ghd Professional Performance Styler onto the pin curl, hold for about 5 seconds, letting the heat do its work, then remove the styler and pin.
- Repeat this technique through the hair. Keep fingers straight at all times when wrapping the hair.
- Once cooled, release the curls from the pins. To finish, mist hair with VS So Sexy Style Clean & Go Dry Shampoo or VS So Sexy Style Hold & Finish Hairspray, depending upon your hair texture or the amount of volume you want to create. Use your hands, or a brush, to create your desired finish.
I’ve also been checking other hair products that help get your hair looking it’s best for the holidays:
New to put on your radar is the Herbal Essences Naked Collection. Experience the refreshing mint extract-infused fragrance in products designed to give you invigorating volume, soothing moisture or revitalizing shine. The Naked Collection includes shampoo and conditioner, as well as Naked Stylers including a Dry Shampoo, Flexible Hold Spritzer, Volumizing Soufflé, Cleansing Conditioner and Sheer Shine Mist. Can’t wait to try this out!
One hair essential that I rely on is a clarifying shampoo–with all the styling products, you can get buildup on the hair shaft and that makes hair dull. Definitely not a good look! One that I like is the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. I use it once a week (easy!) and it removes up to 90% of residue from shampoos, conditioners and styling products. It really works and you can find it in drug and discount stores (approx. $6.49).
So often holiday parties have us going from day-to-night, making our makeup and hair pull double-duty. The Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Conditioner Spray is the perfect complement to the Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo. It has an ultra-fine mist, plus a combination of oils, emollients and vitamins that work synergistically to detangle, soften and polish the hair. It can also be used to refresh hair so that you can restyle. It also has a light, citrus fragrance to neutralize “party hair” odors.
I’ve been using the Sam Villa Light Professional Ionic Hair Dryer and I am so impressed with how it performs. Powerful drying action (1750 watts) and light weight (under a pound!) make it easy to get brilliant shine, reduce static and frizz & create smooth, sleek finishes with the built-in ceramic/tourmaline ion generation. The Sam Villa Brushes are excellent, too!
From ISO Beauty, this 3 piece interchangeable barrel curling wand set gives you the versatility you need to create a variety of looks, from beachy waves to half-updos to curly-curls. I found the iron to heat up quickly, but it did take some getting used to, as I’d never used a “wand” with no clip before. Heats up to 410 degrees.
The perfect adornment to any holiday hair look are these Erickson Beamon hair clips. They’re part of the Gems for GEMS Collection. All proceeds support GEMS (Girls Educational Mentoring Services), a non-profit dedicated to serving victims of human trafficking. Shown here are two of my favorites, the GEMS Twisted Sister ($60) and Deca-Dance ($130) clips. Like jewelry for your hair–so pretty!
In terms of finishing sprays, there are several I like. From AG Hair, Volume High & Dry Matte Volume & Finish is a great spray that infuses hair with natural volume, while not being sticky or heavy. It texturizes hair with a matte finish. It leaves hair soft, without any buildup.
From Moroccanoil, I love the Glimmer Shine Spray. Lightly spritz onto hair for the most amazing, glossy shine. Make sure to wait a few minutes after application before touching hair, to allow the product to dry.
What hair products are you using and loving for the holidays? Let me know in the comments!
