I recently spent a week at one of my favorite vacation destinations, Walt Disney World, and while there, I made it a point to check out the completely redesigned Senses – A Disney Spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. This is definitely a place to come for some “me” time or a place to relax and reset after a few hard-charging days through the Parks.
There is an important distinction about Senses – A Disney Spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs (and also the Grand Floridian) Resort. These are Disney spas. The other spa on Walt Disney World property is the Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort. While it’s on property, it’s not actually owned and operated by Disney. So while I had a wonderful experience there, I was looking forward to a Disney experience.
The journey at Senses – A Disney Spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs is inspired by nature; there is a two story water wall in the lobby, as well as hummingbird motifs and Native-American artwork that includes Pewabic Pottery. The retail area is features a nice assortment of products to take home with you–or to pick up in case you forgot at home. Brands include Eminence, MoroccanOil, Spa-Ritual, Clarisonic and Beautifully Disney, an exclusive makeup collection.
The spa has three themes from which to design your experience–relax, renew or imagine. You can select your treatments from within each track or mix and match to create a custom spa experience.
The relax experiences include a Warm Stone Massage, A Sweet Red Rose Body Treatment and Relax Manicure-Pedicure, which incorporates soothing essential oils designed to provide a sense of peace and well-being. On the renew menu, you can choose from treatments that include a Sports Massage, Apple Sugar Scrub and Mani-Pedi that incorporates Jasmine aromas, designed to produce a euphoric experience and reduce stress. The imagine menu has offerings that include a Massage for Two (in a gorgeous couples room!), Coconut Hydrating Facial, Tropical Coconut Body Treatment and Mani-Pedi that uses Frankincense essential oil and sea salts to detoxify, stimulate and calm.
With any service or package, there are also add-ons or enhancements; one that caught my eye was the Disney Signature Designs that could be added to a Manicure service. We’ll be back at Walt Disney World in March and when I book services at Senses–A Disney Spa at the Grand Floridian, I’ll be adding this on. Disney nail art? I’m in!
The treatment rooms, fitness area and whirlpool/steam room area are all beautifully appointed. The glass-tiled mural in the whirlpool room (complete with hidden Mickey’s) is stunning. And the heated tiled chaises in that area made me wish for one at home. Disney Imagineers brought in glass artists from Italy to do the tile work; it’s that kind of attention to detail that I’ve come to love and expect from a Disney experience.
