You’ve seen it everywhere…the sassy, sexy, faux bob. If cutting your hair isn’t in the plans, but you want the look of this shorter ‘do, then the faux bob style is a great option. Faux bobs were seen all throughout award season, securing their place as a special occasion look.
Follow these steps to create a faux bob:
Step 1: Start with clean hair. I’ve recently been testing Cristophe Professional Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner, a salon-quality line which leaves hair shiny and in good condition for styling. This duo contains Argan and Monoi oils and and Vitamin C for shine and vibrancy. Find the entire Cristophe Professional 12-product range at ULTA.
Step 1 (alternate): If time is an issue, a dry shampoo is the way to go. A new favorite is Batiste Dry Shampoo in the Cherry scent, which is specially formulated to banish away oily roots and revitalize dull, lifeless hair. The special Batiste formula absorbs dirt, grease, and product build up while giving lifeless hair a quick boost in just a few short minutes.
Step 2: Protect the hair before blow drying by applying Matrix Heat Resist Iron Tamer™; part of the Total Results Heat Resist Collection. This silky smoothing lotion protects hair during all phases of styling and is ideal for use with any type of thermal tool. It reduces friction and enhances the thermal styling experience.
Step 2 (alternate): Another styler I’ve recently tried and like is Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Silky Moisture Whip. It moisturizes hair for up to 48 hours and protects hair from heat styling damage. The whipped product really feels silky as you apply it to hair. And the best part for me is that your hair isn’t weighed down.
Step 3: Create a low side part and then starting in the back, take a medium boar bristle round brush and blow dry hair down and away from the face, keeping hair flat. Once hair is dry, divide hair into 2 inch sections and curl. The Remington Ultimate Stylist 4 in 1 Multistyler is the perfect tool, as you can adjust the barrel to create everything from straight styles (like a flatiron) to curls and waves (like a curling iron). It has ceramic plates and 30 heat settings, giving you the ultimate in styling versatility.
Step 4: Once the curled hair has cooled, backcomb to create texture and roll hair up into an “underwrap” faux bob style, pinning the look into place. Once all the hair has been rolled and pinned, if you’d like, pull a few pieces of hair from the “underwrap” to create a natural look with a little texture. Letting loose pieces fall out results in a fresh, modern finish.
Step 5: To finish, spray hair with Alterna CAVIAR Perfect Texture Finishing Spray to lock your look in place. This spray builds body and texture into hair without weighing it down. There is a learning curve, however. You need to hold it at least 12 inches away from your hair (similar to how you’d use a dry shampoo). Once you get the technique, you’ll love the lift and body.
