Guerlain draws on the most beautiful stories in its sumptuous heritage, enhancing them with a modern touch. Inspired by a fable of a bow that has escaped from a ballerina’s chignon, according to legend, it offers the secret of grace and eternal seduction to whomever owns it.
As always, it’s hard to describe the exquisite nature of the Guerlain “A Night At the Opera” Collection. Each product gleams with a touch of gold, or is adorned with the signature bow. And in person, the collection is more dazzling than pictures can do justice. Every holiday, Guerlain is the collection I hold my breath to see. And I’ve never been disappointed yet (there are so few things you can say that about, no?).
The Guerlain Holiday 2014 ‘A Night At the Opera” Collection includes:
I previewed the Guerlain “A Night At the Opera” Holiday Collection and it’s truly stunning! Each product elegant and of the highest quality. And with Natalia Vodianova as the face of the campaign, I don’t think there will be another holiday collection that can compare.
Every year in the holiday collection, Guerlain releases an iridescent shimmer powder. The ultimate indulgence, the notes in the Coque d’Or’ fragrance include rose, bergamot and patchouli. I love that you can wear this beautiful fragrance anywhere; in your hair, on forearms, neck and décolleté. Sexy!
My favorite product in the collection is the Petrouchka Eye and Blush Palette, adorned with it’s own removable red bow. Inside are five shimmering eyeshadows in shades from champagne to deep brown. Lift the eyeshadow palette to reveal four blushes, in both matte and pearlescent (which is more subtle than “shimmer”) shades. The pigmentation on both the eyeshadow and blush is excellent.
The Coque d’Or Nail Lacquer is gold metallic with a fine microshimmer, so it would be fine to wear day-to-night. I also think the Gold Leaf Top Coat is a worthwhile investment as it adds a textural element to nails. I’ve applied that over a darker color so you could see the effect.
The Rouge G Lipstick (or the Gloss d’Enfer in Rouge Parade) is another great addition to your makeup bag. This beautiful bordeaux shade is the holidays! More dramatic than the gilded shades in the Petrouchka Eye and Blush Palette, the Eyeshadow Duo in Cygne Noir is just what you need for a smokey eye. I’m missing an eyeliner in this collection, but you can always reach for the Khol Me Kajal Eyeliner.
The Guerlain Holiday 2014 “A Night at the Opera” Collection is available in select department stores, including Nordstrom. To describe this as a jewel in a sea of holiday collections isn’t an understatement. If you splurge for one holiday collection this season, make it Guerlain!
