Marc Jacobs’ Decadence Eau de Parfum is his most luxurious fragrance yet. It’s a glamorous fragrance, designed to define a new era of opulence. I’m a big fan of the Marc Jacobs fragrance franchise, so I couldn’t wait to experience Decadence and share my impressions with you.
Having a background in cosmetics and fragrances, there are certain launches that are memorable. Like Opium and Angel, Decadence bursts onto the scene with a bold bottle, meticulous attention to detail and a revolutionary fragrance. I’m a handbag lover, so this bottle captivated me from the start. But it’s the entire Decadence experience that is worth noting.
The green “suede” box gives a hint that what’s on the inside is going to be luxurious and special. The Decadence bottle is rendered in a palette of rich emerald green, topped with an exotically textured python cap, a gold chain and black silk tassel. While most of Marc Jacobs other fragrances are more in the direction of fun and flirty, Decadence is all grown up, sexy and sophisticated.
The top notes of Decadence are Italian Plum, Iris and Saffron; the heart of the fragrance is Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine Sambac and Orris, with a drydown of Liquid Amber, Vetiver and Papyrus Woods. My initial impression wearing the fragrance is that there is a unisex, almost masculine feeling from it, which comes undoubtedly from the woods component.
Decadence is a fragrance that is perfect for this time of year, when I crave a warm, ambery fragrance. I get that from Decadence; it’s not really fruity on me at all–in fact, it seems to almost skip over the top notes and go right into a powdery, deep floral, amber accord. I definitely get the woods drydown, too. It has excellent wear time; in fact, I’d say it’s a long-lasting fragrance on me.
Marc Jacobs Decadence Eau de Parfum is available in three sizes: 1.0 oz ($70), 1.7 oz. ($95) and 3.4 oz. ($120) at Sephora, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks, and Bloomingdales. In addition, there is a Rollerball, Body Lotion and Sensual Shower Gel available. If you like a more substantial fragrance, I think you’ll love Decadence. Have you tried it yet?
