For those who prefer timeless glamour to all-out flash, matte reigns supreme. M∙A∙C has created an innovation on this classic texture with 15 highly saturated shades of Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. This is a launch that I’ve waited for since last year’s Fall Fashion Week. The overall look is stunning!
Matte lipsticks have had a recent resurgence, with improved formulas and a classic look. Now, with the new Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours, you get saturated color and a liquid suede finish with the convenience of a gloss. What I think differentiates these matte lip colours from others is the applicator. It’s designed to apply product with precision, therefore no lip liner needed.
As M∙A∙C often does, the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours were introduced at the A/W 2015 Fashion Week. Oh Lady, a deep wine shade, was the focal point of the look at the Carolina Herrera show, with beautiful results. I would have bought it on the spot!
I tried four Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour shades (top to bottom): High Drama, Personal Statement, Rich & Restless and Quite the Standout. The colors in the tube are true to the color that goes on your lips. I found the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours to have excellent color saturation, were not drying on the lips and offered good longevity on the lips.
I wouldn’t say the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours have all-day wear like a lipstick, but the color payoff and the formula is worth the tradeoff. I didn’t find the formula drying. However, as I always do with a matte formula, I would recommend using a lip scrub and making sure your lips are in excellent condition.
The M∙A∙C Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours ($20) are available now in department stores including Nordstrom, and at maccosmetics.com.
