Since moving into our new house, the one area that has remained unfinished, is of all things, my makeup area. My vanity is situated near natural light, but I was finding it challenging to find the right mirror. It needed to be elegant and contemporary, plus the high-quality distortion-free glass I needed for testing makeup. A good makeup mirror is as essential as good makeup brushes. The simplehuman Wide View Sensor Mirror is perfect!

Setup of the mirror is easy. The mirror charges with a USB cord (included) and the charge lasts for up to 3 weeks. It senses when you approach it, and lights up automatically. There are LED strips on either side of the center mirror. No need to replace those bulbs–they’ll last for 40,000 hours!

Once the mirror was in place, I downloaded the simplehuman app and paired it to the mirror with a bluetooth connection. Using the app allows you to customize lighting settings, adjust brightness or to use the preset lighting settings. For example, if you work in an office with the fluorescent lights, you can take a photo in that light, save it to the app, then recreate the same color/intensity on your mirror, allowing for correct makeup application.

You can upload as many photos to the app as you want to recreate different or custom lighting situations. If you’re serious about replicating the perfect lighting for your selfies, this mirror can do that!

In general, I have to say I really love my simplehuman Wide View Sensor Mirror much more than I thought I would. It’s nice to know that my makeup looks good in any lighting. Although simplehuman makes other mirrors that offer magnification, this one doesn’t, and I really wish it did. That’s the only reason I’d give it 3 versus 4 stars. It offers so many amentities compared to a regular mirror, that magnification would take this mirror from amazing to extraordinary.

You can find the simplehuman Wide View Sensor Mirror ($400) exclusively at Neiman Marcus and at If you’re looking for an upscale, luxury makeup mirror with great design and quality, this is it!
