With daily reminders of climate change and the effect on our environment, it’s important to note that our skin can be affected, too. SkinCeuticals has recently published a study on how antioxidants and sunscreens can help protect skin against signs of aging caused by exposure to atmospheric aggressors.

I used to think it was just a “city thing” when I would read about products designed to combat pollution and other environmental aggressors. But research has continued to show that things like UVA/UVB rays can cause serious damage to skin. How do you tell if your skin is affected? Ozone pollution damage appears in skin as excess oiliness, rough texture, and increased sensitivity.

SkinCeuticals has studied the ability of antioxidants and sunscreens to help protect skin against the signs of aging caused by exposure to these atmospheric aggressors. They’ve found that using a regimen designed to prevent, protect and correct can be effective. Adding an antioxidant like C E Ferulic (for normal/dry skins) or Phloretin CF (for combination/oily skins) daily, reduced the damage caused by ozone exposure by neutralizing free radicals on the upper layer of the skin.

Use of a sunscreen, like Physical Fusion IV Defense SPF 50 that prevents UVA/UVB damage, should also be part of your daily skin care regimen. Even if you live in an area, like I do, that isn’t in the “sunbelt”. The sun’s harmful rays penetrate and can cause damage even on cloudy days. Use one of SkinCeuticals many correcting products–I use H.A. Intensifier, which amplifies skin’s hyaluronic acid levels.

I’ve been a longtime fan of SkinCeuticals products; this is a clinical line, backed by science. I want products that work. My ride-or-die anti-aging serum is C E Ferulic; to me, it’s simply the best out there. The combination of antioxidants has been show to protect skin from environmental damage, visibly improve skin clarity, tone, and texture to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
