Not the sexiest of beauty treatments to talk about, we often don’t think about deep-cleansing our scalp until there might be a problem…like itchiness, dryness or flaking. Those symptoms can indicate that your scalp might need a deeper cleansing, clarifying or detoxification treatment.

Scalp treatments have become more popular recently, and one of the reasons is the amount of products we’re using on our hair {guilty!} leading to buildup. Other factors can include lifestyle, how often you shampoo, diet, time of year (your scalp can be drier in winter) and thinning hair.

In my own case, I attribute it to product overload. Once I’ve shampooed and conditioned my hair, I will usually use a blow dry cream, a volumizing product (mousse or spray or possibly salt spray), a UV filter (if I’m planning to be outdoors), and a hair spray. Since I don’t shampoo every day, I generally use a dry shampoo in-between. All of that product can build up; so adding a scalp detox or scalp treatment can help.

I’ve been rotating between these three scalp treatments:

Bb Scalp Detox from Bumble and bumble is a treatment that invigorates and refreshes scalp and hair. You apply this treatment to the scalp, massage in, and wait a few minutes before shampooing. You can feel it working the instant it touches your scalp…it’s kind of a pop rocks sensation! Bb Scalp Detox uses Micellar Water to cleanse the scalp and Salicylic acid to de-gunk dead surface cells, plus conditioners to restore hair’s shine and vitality.

Leonor Greyl Huile Apaisante is a roll-on anti-inflammatory treatment that is 100% natural; it’s fragrance-and-essential-oil-free. Plant extracts work together to gently soothe irritation, relieve dryness and minimize dandruff. The benefit of the roll-on is that you can target specific areas of the scalp, where you might be noticing sensitivity or irritation. Apply to dry scalp in circular motions, leaving on hair 15 minutes before shampooing thoroughly.

If you’ve noticed your hair is thinning, you might consider Aveda invati advanced scalp revitalizer. Specifically formulated to support hair’s natural keratin by using a bio-fermented, ayurvedic and certified organic blend to thicken hair and invigorate scalp. This treatment is applied daily, and it’s recommended you lift hair to spray directly onto scalp; don’t rinse out. The advanced scalp revitalizer is part of the Invati Advanced Solutions range targeted to thinning hair (review).

Do you think you might benefit from using a scalp treatment?
